İG Staff (İstanbul) – The Turkish defense contractor Savunma Sanayii Müsteşarlığı (SSM) and the American aircraft manufacturer Sikorsky are on the verge of signing a deal that would see the production of Black Hawk helicopters in Turkey. A statement released by SSM indicated that the company to produce the helicopter type 109 T-70 Black Hawk was chosen in 2011 and that the programme disposes of a $3.5 billion budget. The statement continues as follows: “The helicopter’s components such as the wings, the cockpit, and the cabin are licensed to Sikorsky as well as the electronic components will be produced by ASELSAN; the GE-licensed motor by TEI and the helicopter landing gear and its gear case by ALP Havacılık, a company that has experience in the transmission systems used in the Black Hawk helicopters”.
